About the Maintenance.
 |
• After measuring, use a lint-free tissue to wipe the sample off of the prism surface.
If the sample contains oils or fat, use isopropyl alcohol and water to clean the prism surface.
• When not in use, keep the refractometer in the storage case at room
temperature (20C). Avoid storing the unit in direct sunlight or in a
moist environment and do not subject the unit to strong shocks or
vibrations. The ambient temperature at which you can safely store the
units is between 0 and 40C. |

About the Brix (%) Scale.

All
Refractometers are designed to measure the refractive index of a
solutoin. The Brix scale is based on a sucrose (sugar) and water
solution. However, since most samples contain substances other than
sugar - such as salts, minerals and protenis - the Brix percentage
repesents the total concentration of all soluble solids in the sample.
For certain samples, such as cutting oils and other industrial fluids,
a conversion chart from the Brix percentage to the sample's total
concentration may be necessary.

About the volume of the sample.

Low
viscosity samples like water need about 0.3ml to measure. Higher the
viscosity, larger the sample amount will be needed. As soon as the
sample spreads out completely between the daylight plate and the prism,
it is about the best amount to take measurements. ATAGO supplies the
"Small Volume Daylight Plate" (RE-2311-52M) for small volume sample
measurements by the MASTER-Series Refractometers. (Only 1l of sample
needed.)

The scale of the Analog hand-Held Refractometer is blur, and I can not see clear boundary line. How can I do with this unit?

If the scale is blur, water or moisture might get inside of the
Refractometer. Leave the unit at dry place for a few days, or use a
hair dryer to take water/moisture out from the unit. (Do not use the
hair dryer exceed by 50C.) If there is dust inside, please send the
unit to ATAGO (or ATAGO Distributor) for service.
